FROM STAFF REPORTS

MARBLE FALLS Authorities have launched an investigation into a “suspicious” fire they believe originated near a broken window in the back of a vacant residence.

According to Marble Falls Fire Rescue Chief Johnny Caraway, a motorist alerted firefighters at about 11:45 a.m. Feb. 20 about smoke coming from a house at 611 Ave. P.

“The homeowner was there shortly before the fire and advised that no one was in the house. There’s been no electricity hooked to the house for quite some time,” Caraway said. “Based on those facts (and that) there was a window broke out in the back of the house near the area of the fire, we feel most likely the fire was intentionally set.”

Investigators reported extensive damage to the back wall of the home as well as heat and smoke damage throughout the house.

The Marble Falls Police Department has launched a criminal investigation.

“We’re asking anybody with any information, we’d appreciate a call,” Caraway said.

Call MFPD at (830) 693-3611 or the fire chief at (830) 693-4060.

Marble Falls Area Volunteer Fire Department and Horseshoe Bay Fire Department as well as agencies from Cottonwood Shores and Granite Shoals assisted on the call.
