![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The Tree of Angels Shines On December 6th, 2014 @ 5 pm CORNERSTONE BAPTIST CHURCH 408 AVE. R,Marble Falls To many families, the holiday season brings only an empty place at the table, the Tree and the heart. The loss of a friend or family member to violent crime becomes all too apparent and only memories of the past and the shadow of loss come forth. A violent crime is committed every 3 seconds. Lives forever changed by a senseless act of violence. For these victims, survivors, families and communities each year comes the dedication and lighting of The Tree of Angels. A reverent forum for the community to join together to remember, include and support victims of violent crime who are a part of our everyday lives and communities. Above all, the Tree of Angels is an expression of love, compassion and support. Since its inception, the Tree of Angels has become a memorable tradition observed throughout Texas communities. It is now a ceremony celebrated worldwide. Initiated by District Attorney Sam Oatman in 1998, the first ceremony took place on the south lawn of the Llano county courthouse where he and a small group of victim's families gathered to honor and remember the victims of violent crime. Under this forum and tradition, victims, survivors and their families bring an Angel ornament, to place on this special tree in honor of their loved one. A Tree they may return to and visit throughout the holiday season. This year's event marks the 17th anniversary for The Tree of Angels in the 33rd/424th judicial district. Mr. Oatman left office at the end of 2012, but his legacy of bringing The Tree of Angels to this district and the families and friends of these victims lives on . . . . Sadly, 7 new Angels will be added to the Tree this year. The Tree of Angels will be "reposed" and on display in the foyer of City Hall in the Host City of Marble Falls for all to visit. The ceremony is open to the public. Doors open @ 4 pm to tag ornaments, accept photos for the Tree Skirt and blocks for the Angel Quilt Presented by Hill Country Survivors of Violent Crime, Inc. fOR ANY QUESTIONS OR CONCERNS CALL 325-388-4720 FOR MORE INFO: please visit www.treeofangels.net |
